The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noted that frozen Russian assets abroad are estimated at approximately $300 billion and should be used to support Ukraine. In his message on the X social network page, he expressed his belief that this is a historic opportunity to make Russia, which he called a "terrorist state", answer for its terrorist actions.
"The Russian elites and leadership do not care about human lives, but they certainly do not care about money. Loss of assets will be the most painful punishment for them. They will feel the true power of the international community and see that the world is stronger than terror," the president said.
According to him, the use of frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine will be a fair and legal response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Zelensky believes that this will be a real signal to potential aggressors in the world that an attack on another state will not bring benefits, and the aggressor will be forced to answer for his actions.
"I urge the partners to quickly work on creating the appropriate legal framework. This year, we should achieve tangible progress in the issue of using frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine. On the way to this goal, we firmly count on the leadership of the Group of Seven," he added.
