President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed Law No. 4197-IX, which amends the Law of Ukraine “On Military Duty and Military Service.” The document provides for updating the procedure for registering Ukrainian citizens for military registration as conscripts and conducting their medical examination during basic military training.
This is reported by the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
According to the law, every year from January 1 to July 31, young men who turn 17 are registered as conscripts with information entered into the Unified State Register of Conscripts, Military Conscripts, and Reservists:
- using an electronic account;
- personal arrival at the CCC and SP.
Also, before undergoing practical basic military training, citizens undergo a medical examination.
In addition, the law extends until March 1 the possibility of registering servicemen who committed a crime and who voluntarily arrived at military units. For such persons, the commander shall, no later than 72 hours, extend their military service, the validity of the contract, and also resume the payment of money and the provision of food, clothing, and other types of support.
But women who are fit for military service and who have expressed a desire to undergo basic military service are registered as conscripts voluntarily.
Last spring, all conscripts and military personnel in Ukraine were required to update their data. We previously wrote that in certain cases, conscripts may be put on the wanted list of the Central Military District.
Also, earlier, the Rada supported in the first reading a bill that proposes to reduce the fine for violating military registration rules during a special period from 17,000 hryvnias to 8,500 hryvnias.
