Despite the lack of direct movement of military equipment and personnel near the Ukrainian border, the direction with Belarus remains potentially threatening. This was announced by the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, during a telethon broadcast.
Demchenko stressed that the situation on the border with Belarus remains stable. The Ukrainian Defense Forces fully control the border line, and at the moment no unusual situations have been recorded directly on the state border. According to him, intelligence is constantly monitoring what is happening deep inside the territory of Belarus in order to promptly respond to possible changes and be ready for any actions from the Belarusian side.
“In the immediate vicinity of our border, we do not notice or observe any movement of equipment or personnel,” Demchenko noted. However, he also added that this direction remains threatening due to the continued influence of Russia on Belarus.
Demchenko stressed that Russia may put pressure on Belarus to involve it in the war on a larger scale. The Ukrainian side is actively strengthening the border and fortifications to ensure readiness for possible attacks from the territory of Belarus, regardless of whether these attacks are carried out by Belarusian units or Russian forces.
It is important to note that at this point Russia does not have a sufficient group of forces on the territory of Belarus for a possible invasion of the territory of Ukraine, which Demchenko emphasized.
However, according to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, based on intelligence data, Belarus is concentrating a large number of personnel, including Special Operations Forces, weapons and military equipment on the border with Ukraine. This is taking place under the guise of exercises, but is causing concern.
The Foreign Ministry reports that Belarus has deployed tanks, artillery, multiple rocket launchers, air defense systems, and engineering equipment near Ukraine's northern borders in the Gomel region. In addition, the presence of mercenaries from the former Wagner PMC has been recorded, further exacerbating the situation.
