The reconstruction of the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital, which was damaged by a Russian missile strike in July 2024, will not take place this year. This was announced by the hospital's medical director, Serhiy Chernyshuk, on a telethon, explaining the reasons for the delays.
The main reason is the change in the procedure for selecting a contractor, which requires more time. Chernyshuk noted that a re-examination was conducted, which is still in the final stage. “We are waiting for the final verdict on the general building,” he said, adding that the new examination is more detailed and was conducted by a leading institution in this field.
He also clarified that the renovation of "Okhmatdyt" is planned to be carried out by one company in the "design-build" mode, which means first developing the project, and then carrying out construction work. Now these processes are separated: design and construction will take place separately.
Chernyshuk explained that to ensure transparency in the contractor selection procedure, a separate tender will be announced after the project development is completed. All this takes time, as it is carried out with the hospital's budget funds, and according to the legislation, this procedure must be more thorough to avoid possible violations.
Okhmatdyt Hospital announced simplified procurement for emergency works worth UAH 9.51 million, as well as technical supervision over them worth UAH 132 thousand. By November 15, priority emergency works to protect the hospital building must be completed.
Recall that on July 8, 2023, the Russian Federation launched a massive missile strike on Kyiv, as a result of which one of the buildings of the Okhmatdyt hospital was completely destroyed and several buildings were damaged. The attack killed two people, including a child who was in intensive care after surgery.
At the same time, the Ohmatdyt Charity Foundation does not plan to transfer the UAH 378 million collected for the reconstruction of the hospital to the account of the Ohmatdyt Non-profit Organization. The organization noted that all funds collected will remain in their accounts and will be used to pay for the hospital's urgent needs, but the hospital has not provided any requests regarding such needs.
After the scandal with the tender for the restoration of the hospital, a special Control Council will be created to monitor the process of restoring "Okhmatdyt".
