The number of Western companies that have expressed a desire to join the reconstruction process in Ukraine is gradually increasing. Private and state-owned foreign firms are already actively working on plans for the country's post-war reconstruction. According to the European Investment Bank, the volume of investments in this project could exceed $1 trillion.
Among the companies that intend to join the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war, the following are noted:
- Metinvest BV is the largest steel producer, which estimates that about 3.5 million tons of steel will be needed for housing and social infrastructure construction over the next 5-10 years.
- Rheinmetall AG is a German engineering and weapons manufacturer that plans to launch the production of 155-mm artillery ammunition in Ukraine.
- Fixit is a building materials manufacturer that last year announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility in western Ukraine.
- Bayer AG is a chemical company that plans to invest in seed production.
- Waagner-Biro Bridge Systems is an Austrian company that has already started operating in the western regions of Ukraine, manufacturing modular steel bridges that cross rivers and valleys.
Turkish companies, including Onur Group in cooperation with Korea's Samsung C&T Corp and Dogus Construction, are also working on the rehabilitation of bridges and roads in Ukraine. The largest of them, Onur Group, has already completed 70 projects worth about $1 billion.
The reconstruction process not only involves large financial investments, but also has its own challenges and nuances. In particular, it is necessary to focus on supporting people and their well-being, and not only on finances. The Chief Economist of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development emphasizes that the success of Ukraine's reconstruction depends on the patience of the Ukrainians and the implementation of peace agreements, as well as on Russia's compliance with international obligations.
The head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Development and Reconstruction of Ukraine believes that the country has the prospect of a better reconstruction than ever before. However, successful recovery requires time, patience and interaction with all stakeholders.
