Law enforcement officers have exposed a contractor who supplied bricks for the construction of a columbarium wall at the Forest Cemetery in Kyiv at a high markup. The criminal “earned” almost 900,000 hryvnias from an illegal scheme. This was reported by the press service of the capital's police.
According to law enforcement, in 2019, construction of a columbarium wall on the territory of the Forest Cemetery began at the request of a municipal enterprise. However, according to preliminary information, the former director of the funeral service and his deputy, intending to squander budget funds, entered unreliable information about the cost of clinker bricks into the project documentation. They also approved the contractor's acceptance certificate for the completed construction work, which allowed them to receive excess funds.

The investigation established that the 54-year-old director of the contracting organization overestimated the cost of materials, in particular clinker bricks, which caused the state budget to suffer losses of about 900 thousand hryvnias.
An investigation is currently underway, and the contractor has been declared a suspect. The perpetrator faces up to 12 years in prison.
