The attack on the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant, which occurred on the night of February 24, was carried out with the participation of employees of the Security Service of Ukraine and Ukrainian military intelligence for the purpose of a special operation.
Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant is one of the largest metallurgical facilities in Russia, which plays an important role in the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation and fulfills a significant number of government orders.
The raw materials produced at this enterprise are used to produce missiles, artillery, and drones.
After the drone strikes, a large-scale fire broke out at the plant and all personnel were evacuated. The attack targeted the primary cooling units for raw coke oven gas. Damage to these units will lead to a long-term shutdown of production.
Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant is owned by oligarch Vladimir Lisin, who is close to dictator Vladimir Putin and is among the three richest people in the Russian Federation.
Until recently, the plant produced raw materials for companies developing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.
