The Security Service of Ukraine has detained a former official of the Kupyansk City Council who, after the occupation of the community, voluntarily joined the local Russian occupation administration. According to the SBU and the Prosecutor General's Office, the collaborator actively assisted the enemy during the occupation of Kupyansk.
In his “position,” he was responsible for the “reconstruction” of buildings destroyed by Russian troops. However, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, this work was only formal, as the restoration of the buildings was carried out only on paper to create propaganda plots. The goal was to demonstrate to local residents that Russia supposedly “cares about people,” despite the destruction it itself caused.
After the liberation of Kupyansk by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the collaborator fled to Kharkiv, where he obtained the status of an internally displaced person and rented housing. However, law enforcement officers found him and detained him. He was charged with collaboration (Part 2, Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
This case is not an isolated one. The SBU, together with the National Police, continue to effectively identify and neutralize collaborators and saboteurs operating on the territory of Ukraine. Recently, a sabotage group was detained in Chernihiv region, which, on the orders of Russian special services, tried to destroy Ukrzaliznytsia facilities in border areas.
