The Security Service of Ukraine has exposed and detained a lawyer who demanded $1 million from a citizen for assistance in resolving a land issue. The SBU press service reports.
According to the SBU, Sukhanov acted in collusion with city officials, promising to help rent a land plot on the Dnieper embankment in Natalka Park for $1 million. He guaranteed the client a positive decision through the Kyiv City State Administration.
According to sources, the lawyer turned out to be Oleksandr Sukhanov, who is also the head of the UDAR party in the Odessa region.
Law enforcement officers detained the lawyer red-handed while receiving the first tranche of $900,000.
An investigation is currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the case and possible accomplices. Sukhanov faces criminal liability for receiving large amounts of illegal benefit.
