Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the Security Service of Ukraine, exposed and detained a serviceman who, in Sloviansk, Donetsk region, posed as an SBU officer in order to extort money from an acquaintance.
As the investigation established, the man presented himself as a secret service agent and, using this status, tried to obtain financial gain. He was exposed during the transfer of funds.
The State Bureau of Investigation informs about this.
The soldier learned that an administrative report had been drawn up against a woman he knew for violating traffic rules. He assured her that he was an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine and could help her avoid liability. He asked for $4,000 for this service, explaining the amount by the alleged “high level of agreements” with law enforcement officials.
Over time, the "help" turned into outright extortion - the defendant began to psychologically pressure the woman and threaten her to "agree" to his offer.
SBI employees detained him while receiving $4.2 thousand.
The serviceman was informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code (obtaining unlawful benefit for oneself for influencing the decision of an official, combined with extortion).
The sanction of the article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Currently, the suspect has been remanded in custody with the possibility of bail.
