On the evening of March 25, an armed attack on patrol police officers took place in Odessa, which ended with a large-scale special operation and the death of the suspect.
According to the National Police of Ukraine, the incident occurred at around 10:40 p.m. during a routine document check. The 45-year-old driver suddenly opened automatic fire on the law enforcement officers, after which he fled in a car.
As a result of the shooting, two patrol officers received gunshot wounds. They were promptly provided with medical assistance.
According to local media, the attacker was traveling in a Zhiguli car, and witnesses reported automatic weapons fire. At the same time, it became known that the man was wanted for violating military registration rules.
After the attack, a special police operation was immediately launched in the region. The KORD special unit, investigative and operational groups, and other services were involved in the search and detention of the suspect.
Within a few hours, law enforcement officers located the man. He was hiding in an unfinished building in the village of Svitle, Odessa region. Medics and a large police force were on the scene. The negotiator tried to establish contact with the suspect, but he refused to engage in dialogue.
According to police, a man opened fire on KORD fighters from the third floor of the building. In response, special forces used weapons. The attacker died during the shootout.
The police emphasized that the use of force was forced and aimed at ending the threat to the lives of law enforcement officers.
The State Bureau of Investigation and the Prosecutor's Office have been notified of the incident. The full circumstances of the incident are currently being established.
