Russian hackers continue to attack Ukrainian media outlets with the aim of spreading disinformation and lies. This time, they managed to hack the broadcast system of the Espresso TV channel, where they introduced a propaganda video about “US involvement in the war in Ukraine.”.
“We are sorry that our viewers witnessed this provocative video on air. Responsibility for the war in Ukraine lies with Russia. This is an obvious fact that the authors of the video tried to deny. This indicates that Russian attackers are involved in the attack on “Espresso”, the message says. The channel’s team has taken all necessary security measures, the propaganda video has already been removed from the air. The channel is also preparing an appeal to law enforcement agencies.
In addition, hackers also attempted to access the Telegram account of investigative journalist Georgy Shabayev of the “Schemes” project, as announced by the journalist himself. The hackers managed to intercept a message with a code to log into the messenger, but their attempts at two-factor authentication failed.
“Since this was a targeted attack due to the successful interception of SMS, I directly link it to my professional activities,” he said. Shabaev himself does not believe that he was targeted by Russian hackers, he believes that the attackers are interested in materials regarding future investigations into the “Schemes” project.
On the evening of February 19, unknown individuals hacked the system responsible for broadcasting the Espresso TV channel. After that, they broadcast a short video with footage of destroyed Ukrainian cities, as well as the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, and a call to stop, hinting at the alleged involvement of the United States in the war in Ukraine.
