World heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk has appealed to US presidential candidate Donald Trump to help free Ukrainians held in Russian captivity.
"Dear Joe Rogan, could you ask Donald Trump when he appears on your podcast: if Mr. President is so confident in his influence over Putin, could he immediately help free the Azovstal defenders and all Ukrainians from Russian captivity? Time is of the essence. With respect, Oleksandr," Usyk wrote on the social network X.
The appeal was part of Usyk's broader campaign to draw attention to the plight of Ukrainian soldiers who were captured. Usyk also showed off his creative side by appearing at a press conference ahead of his rematch with boxer Tyson Fury dressed as "The Hitman.".
Usyk repeated the style of the main character of the eponymous computer game series, known as Agent 47. The Ukrainian appeared in a classic black suit, a white shirt with a red tie, and leather gloves, and also shaved his head, which became a characteristic feature of the character.
On his social media page, Usyk also addressed Fury: "I will not leave you alone. Never," emphasizing his determination and support. These actions indicate that Usyk is not only fighting in the ring, but also trying to fight for justice and freedom for his compatriots during this difficult time.
