Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal reported that the budget for 2024 was calculated based on an optimistic forecast for the end of the war in the summer of this year. This forecast was given by experts from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
However, the war continues, and now the state budget lacks about half a trillion hryvnias to finance the army, which is to be collected by raising taxes on the population.
"When we planned the 2024 budget together with the IMF, one of the partners' predictions was that the war would last until the summer of 2024. Accordingly, the budget planned military spending as it is now," the prime minister said at a press conference.
The budget for 2025 is already being planned - also with the IMF.
Recall that in July, the Minister of Finance also stated that predictions about the war stopping in 2024 did not come true, and it will continue in 2025.
