Russia, which has launched an aggressive war against Ukraine, is trying to issue ultimatums to the North Atlantic Alliance. However, the aggressor country has no moral or legal right to demand that NATO reconsider the promise made to Ukraine and Georgia at the Bucharest Summit in 2008 regarding their future membership in the Alliance.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately responded to the latest statements from Moscow. MFA spokesman Heorhiy Tykhyi expressed the official position of the department on the social network X, harshly ridiculing Russia's attempts to dictate the terms of the Alliance.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko called Ukraine's potential NATO membership "catastrophic for European security." He also said that the Bucharest summit decision creates an "unacceptable ambiguity" that prevents peace in Ukraine.
In response, Georgy Tykhyi did not hold back in his formulations, giving Russia a clear answer, which the Foreign Ministry considers the most understandable for the Kremlin rhetoric:
"Oh, just a moment, North Korea's ally is giving NATO ultimatums. Complete nonsense. Moscow has not said a word on this issue.".
Tykhyi also emphasized that it is Russia that is responsible for the destruction of the European security architecture by waging a war of aggression and supporting terrorist groups.
“The European security architecture is built on protection from Russia,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized.
In Ukraine, it is believed that NATO's actions, including the prospect of Ukraine's accession to the Alliance, are a response to the threat posed by the Kremlin's aggressive policy.
