Once the Republican Party takes the White House, Ukraine will face a massive audit of the use of financial assistance provided by the United States. According to party representatives, the planned investigations concern issues of transparency in the use of funds and the fight against corruption.
This is reported by the Kyiv Post newspaper, citing Washington insiders.
“I was on Capitol Hill last week and heard a lot of concerns about corruption in Ukraine,” Stephen Moore, a former Trump adviser during his first election campaign, told the publication.
After meeting with more than 100 Republican offices on Capitol Hill, Moore said they want to "see accountability for the money sent to the United States - down to the dollar.".
“Expect many hearings that will ask detailed questions” about whether American aid to Ukraine was used properly. “If the Ukrainians can’t answer those questions, Republicans won’t be very lenient,” he added.
Washington insiders say that Congressional leaders are interested not only in accountability, but also in getting to the bottom of alleged corruption in Ukraine.
Arthur Estopinian, one of the Washington lobbyists who works with Ukrainian businessmen, said that some congressmen were “shocked” that “businessmen are being extorted by high-ranking Ukrainian officials.”.
“As more people learn about this blatant corruption, it will lead to further investigations and even congressional hearings,” Moore says.
