The State Bureau of Investigation has completed a pre-trial investigation into a law enforcement officer from Chernivtsi region who, while intoxicated (1.45 ppm), caused a fatal traffic accident. The indictment has been sent to court.
According to the investigation, on the night of July 27-28, 2025, at about 01:45 in the city of Novoselytsia, Chernivtsi district, a law enforcement officer, driving her own car, lost control on a curved section of the road. The car went off the roadway and crashed into a concrete fence.
In the cabin with the driver were three of her friends, with whom she had been relaxing and drinking alcohol that evening. As a result of the collision, the 35-year-old passenger died on the spot, and two other women received injuries of varying severity. The driver was hospitalized; later she was informed of the suspicion.
The examination confirmed that the woman was driving under the influence of alcohol: the blood alcohol level was 1.45 ppm. By decision of the court, a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail was chosen. It is noted that the suspect fully admits her guilt.
The investigation was conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of the National Police. She was charged under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - violation of road safety rules by a person driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, which caused the death of the victim. The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years.
The indictment has already been sent to the court - the next stage will be the consideration of the case in accordance with the procedure provided for by criminal procedure legislation. Representatives of the State Bureau of Investigation noted that the investigation has been completed with the full collection of evidence and in cooperation with authorized law enforcement agencies.
