Scholz had his first telephone conversation with Putin in two years

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, their first contact in nearly two years, Reuters The conversation lasted about an hour and covered key security and international policy issues.

The German government confirmed the telephone conversation between Scholz and Putin.

According to Bloomberg, they discussed ways to end the war in Ukraine.

Scholz told Putin that the war must end and called for negotiations with Ukraine.

Recall that the Russian Federation declares that it is ready for negotiations with Ukraine, but only on the basis of "realities on the ground." That is, taking into account Russia's territorial acquisitions.

Ukraine officially rejects any territorial compromises and demands the withdrawal of Russian troops to the 1991 borders.

Scholz also told Putin that Germany would continue to support Ukraine "as long as necessary," the German Cabinet said in a statement.
