An earthquake was recorded in Ukraine on Monday morning, January 19. The tremors occurred at 04:26 in the area of the Novoushytskyi territorial community of Kamianets-Podilskyi district of Khmelnytskyi region.
According to experts, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of about one kilometer, and the magnitude of the underground vibrations was 1.5. According to the classification of seismologists, such tremors belong to the category of imperceptible and do not pose a threat to the population.
There were no reports of destruction, damage to infrastructure, or complaints from citizens.
Experts emphasize that such weak local earthquakes are periodically recorded in Ukraine and usually have no consequences. They do not affect the condition of buildings, critical infrastructure, or the safety of residents.
Earlier, in December 2025, a series of earthquakes were also recorded in Ukraine for several days. The weakest of them were recorded in Khmelnytskyi, Chernivtsi and Ternopil regions with magnitudes up to 2.9. The most powerful earthquake of that period occurred in the Black Sea near the coast of Crimea and had a magnitude of 4.4.
Seismologists note that these events are not connected and do not indicate an increase in overall seismic activity in Ukraine. The Crimean coast traditionally belongs to seismically active regions, and tremors that occur at considerable depths are usually almost not felt on land.
Experts emphasize that the only real factor of increased danger for Ukraine could be the increase in seismic activity in the Vrancea zone. The current weak earthquakes pose no threat to either the population or infrastructure facilities.
