Customs officers of the Chernivtsi region discovered a woman on the border with Romania who was trying to illegally export $100,000 in cash from Ukraine. The incident occurred at the Porubne-Siret checkpoint.
A 48-year-old Ukrainian citizen tied the currency to her stomach with tape and tried to cross the border on foot. According to the woman, she hoped that the large amount of money would not be noticed under her clothes. The amount she tried to take out is equivalent to approximately 4.2 million UAH.
A report has been drawn up on the fact of the violation under Part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. If the citizen's guilt is proven in court, she faces a fine of 50 to 100% of the amount of money and confiscation of the cash to the state budget.
As a reminder, under the current Customs Code of Ukraine, it is permitted to transport cash up to 10,000 euros or the equivalent in another currency across the border without a written declaration. Amounts exceeding the limit are subject to mandatory declaration at the customs post.
