Mukachevo City District Court has delivered a verdict in the case of a fatal road accident that occurred in December 2024 in the village of Chynadievo, Zakarpattia Oblast. Local resident Yevhen Turyanchyk was driving a Ford Focus when he hit a man lying on the side of the road. The victim died on the spot from his injuries.
According to the text of the verdict, which was announced on May 15, 2025, the accused fully admitted his guilt. He explained to the court that he was returning home with his wife, and at the moment of the collision he was blinded by the headlights of an oncoming car. The driver assumed that he had run over some obstacle — for example, a firewood pile, so he did not stop. Already at home, the man received a call from the police and was informed that a person had died under the wheels of his car.
The investigation established that the victim was in a state of severe alcohol intoxication - almost 3.8 ppm of alcohol was found in his blood. CCTV cameras recorded that before the tragedy the man first sat down and then fell onto the road. The mother of the deceased did not file any claims against the accused, since he voluntarily compensated for all the damages.
Judge Volodymyr Nosov found Yevhen Turyanchyk guilty of violating traffic rules, which caused the death of the victim (Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and sentenced him to three years in prison. At the same time, the court decided to replace the actual sentence with one year of probation.
