Three men in Chernihiv organized a scheme to seize the real estate of deceased citizens by presenting fake persons as their heirs, the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reported.
According to the investigation, the perpetrators operated from January 2019 to October 2023. They used forged documents, registering inheritances for people who were allegedly children of deceased apartment owners. The inherited property was not registered legally, so the perpetrators accompanied the "heirs" at all stages of obtaining title documents.
After obtaining ownership, the property was sold to bona fide buyers, thus legalizing the property obtained through criminal means.
There are three known cases of illegal seizure of apartments, for which the fraudsters received about UAH 2 million. Their involvement in other similar episodes in Chernihiv is currently being investigated.
Two members of the group have already been detained. At the request of the prosecutor's office, they were placed in custody as a preventive measure.
