Another forced labor scheme has been uncovered in the Kyiv region, in which 13 citizens of Uzbekistan were affected. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, two Chinese citizens, an Uzbek citizen, and a Ukrainian woman organized the illegal movement and exploitation of people on a farm in the region.
The victims were recruited outside Ukraine, their freedom of movement was restricted, and they were forced to work in inhumane conditions. Workers were even forbidden to freely visit the restroom, creating a special “toilet schedule,” and fines and other methods of coercion were used for violating the rules.
On September 17, law enforcement officers searched a farm where 13 foreigners were being held. The prosecutor's office called the premises where the workers lived "inhumane" and the living conditions dangerous to life and health.
The detainees have already been informed of the suspicion of committing a particularly serious crime - labor exploitation under Part 2 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing preventive measures is currently being resolved.
This case became another signal about the need to strengthen control over labor migration and combat forced labor in Ukraine.
