In Ternopil, law enforcement agencies have launched a pre-trial investigation into the death of a third-grader in a medical facility. This was reported on Tuesday, December 16, by the head of the Ternopil region police, Serhiy Zyubanenko, on his Facebook page. According to preliminary data, the child's death could have occurred as a result of complications after an acute respiratory viral infection.
The tragic event became known on Monday, December 15. It concerns a student of grade 3-B of Ternopil Specialized School No. 7 with in-depth study of foreign languages, Lukyan Sopel. The official page of the educational institution published a message with words of condolences to the boy's family and loved ones.
The school did not specify the cause of the child's death. At the same time, the head of the regional police noted that the boy died in the hospital, but did not say whether he had chronic diseases or whether medical error could have led to the tragedy.
Serhiy Zyubanenko also drew attention to the fact that the police learned about the child's death not from doctors, but from messages on social networks. According to him, this fact in itself raises questions to which society has the right to receive clear and reasoned answers.
According to information from ZAXID.NET's own sources, the boy died on Saturday, December 13, in the Ternopil Regional Children's Hospital. The next day, on Sunday, December 14, he was buried. It is previously known that the child had a cold, which gave serious complications in the form of pneumonia. The cause of death, according to preliminary data, was cardiac arrest.
Currently, investigators of the Ternopil District Police Department are investigating all the circumstances that preceded the death of the third-grader. The information has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - improper performance of professional duties by medical workers. The police emphasize that the inspection must be objective and impartial, and all the circumstances of the tragedy must be carefully established.
