On Saturday, March 8, an extraordinary event occurred in the Pechersk district of Kyiv - three cars fell under the asphalt at once. The incident occurred at 8 Museum Lane.
As Ukrinform reports, cars were parked along the street when the asphalt suddenly gave way beneath them, forming a deep hole.
Public utilities are working at the scene, assessing the extent of the damage and possible causes of the road surface failure.

According to preliminary information, there were no injuries, but the cars themselves suffered serious damage.
There is no official version yet regarding the reasons for the failure, but experts have put forward several main hypotheses:
- Soil erosion – possible damage or rupture of underground utilities could have caused erosion of the base under the road surface.
- Old engineering networks – in the center of Kyiv there are many heating mains, water supply and sewage systems that could crack or cause soil subsidence.
- Nearby construction work – frequent reconstruction and underground construction work can affect the integrity of the road surface.
Representatives of Kyivteploenergo, Kyivvodokanal, and the State Emergency Service are already working at the scene of the accident. Their task is to assess whether there is a risk of further collapse and determine ways to eliminate the consequences of the collapse.
Photos from the scene of the incident also appeared online, showing cars literally "drowned" in an asphalt pit.
Unfortunately, asphalt collapses in the capital occur regularly. One of the most common reasons is the outdated city infrastructure - most of the pipelines in Kyiv are over 50 years old. Under load, temperature changes, and elevated groundwater levels, this can lead to destruction.
In any case, Kyiv residents should be careful, especially in the older areas of the city, where the risks of such failures are higher.
Currently, public utilities continue to work at the scene of the accident, and the owners of the damaged cars are waiting for the results of the investigation.
