At a conference dedicated to the fight against corruption in Ukraine and its progress towards joining the European Union, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna expressed important views that have determined the course of our country in the coming years. Stefanishyna confirmed that Ukraine has adopted a course to do the “homework” necessary for EU accession over the next two years. However, she emphasized that this is only the beginning of a long path of reforms necessary for the country’s full integration into the European community.
“I confirm: we need two years to do our homework. But reforms do not end with accession. This is just the beginning,” she said, emphasizing that the work done so far is only the tip of the iceberg. Ukraine is actively working to meet all accession criteria, in particular, in the field of combating corruption, implementing democratic standards and ensuring human rights. According to Stefanishyna, despite receiving a decision to start negotiations, “we need to do a hundred times more work.” The process of integration into the EU is not only a technical fulfillment of requirements, but also a deep transformation of the country, covering all spheres of life. It requires everyone to be ready for change, flexible and responsible. At the same time, the European Union and its member states play an important role, on which not only Ukraine’s acceptance into its ranks depends, but also further support on the path of reforms. That is why Stefanishyna emphasizes the importance of unity and cooperation with European partners.
