A tragic road accident occurred near Odessa, killing two servicemen. The accident occurred on the morning of October 17, at around 7 a.m., on the highway near the village of Sukhyi Lyman.
According to preliminary information, a 63-year-old truck driver hit the military personnel who were at a mobile checkpoint. The man behind the wheel explained to law enforcement officers that he did not notice the people on the road.
Unfortunately, one of the servicemen died at the scene, the other died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Both deceased were aged 34 and 36.
A sobriety test showed that the driver was sober. Law enforcement officers are currently establishing all the circumstances of the tragedy and are deciding on the issue of entering information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations. A decision may also be made to detain the driver in a procedural manner.
Traffic on this section of the road remains difficult. Police urge drivers to be careful, plan their route in advance, and strictly follow traffic rules, especially near checkpoints and military facilities.
