A tragedy occurred in Nizhyn, when one of the heads of the Nizhyn District Police Department caused the death of a serviceman as a result of a traffic accident. The incident caused a wide reaction in society and raised questions about the responsibility of law enforcement officers.
Yesterday at around 11:00 a.m., a law enforcement officer in a company car drove to one of the intersections in the center of Nizhyn. Suddenly, a man ran out onto the road. It was not possible to avoid the collision, the soldier died on the spot from his injuries. This is stated in the message of the press service of the SBI.
According to preliminary data, the driver was sober.
Criminal proceedings are carried out on the grounds of the offense provided for in Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the rules of road traffic safety or operation of the vehicle by the person driving the vehicle, which caused the death of the victim).
Necessary investigative actions are being carried out in order to fully and comprehensively investigate the circumstances of the traffic accident.
Procedural management is carried out by the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
