A fatal grenade explosion occurred in Kolomyia district of Ivano-Frankivsk region. A 24-year-old local resident brought an F1 grenade into his house, which accidentally fell into the hands of his brother and detonated.
The incident killed a 13-year-old boy, and his 64-year-old stepfather, who was seriously injured, died in hospital a few days later. Law enforcement officials said the grenade had been illegally purchased and stored in the apartment.
Police have detained a 24-year-old man responsible for storing the ammunition. He faces 3 to 7 years in prison under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).
Law enforcement officers emphasize the danger of storing explosives at home and urge citizens to obey the law.
