In Odessa, law enforcement officers recorded a horrific incident: a 39-year-old woman, a resident of a neighboring region, while in her roommate's dormitory room, while drinking alcohol, suddenly gave birth to a daughter and immediately threw her from the sixth floor onto the street.
According to preliminary police data, the child was born alive, but died from injuries sustained in a fall from a height. After the crime, the mother tried to cover up the crime.
Her actions are classified under Article 117 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - intentional murder by a mother of her newborn child immediately after childbirth. According to the law, the maximum penalty for such a crime is up to five years in prison.
Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych responded to the tragedy by emphasizing the importance of baby boxes – the “window of life.” They operate in five medical facilities in the city and allow women in difficult life circumstances to leave their newborn baby anonymously and safely.
