US President Donald Trump has declared an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to start negotiations on termination of war in Ukraine. At the same time, he assured that he would continue to help Kiev in order not to give the impression that Russia had already won.
The first meeting will take place in Saudi Arabia,
Trump said that the negotiations will be "both here and there" and the first meeting is scheduled in Saudi Arabia. According to him, it will happen "in the near future." He also noted that, having listened to both Zelensky and Putin, he concluded that both wanted the end of the war.
Without Ukraine's participation
, Trump stressed that the first stage of negotiations will be exclusively between the United States and Russia - without the participation of Ukraine or European leaders. Zelensky, according to Trump, will be involved in the next stages, although not all the time, because "Ukraine will need to hold elections."
When asked about possible concessions of Ukraine about the territories, Trump said ambiguously: "They will have to do what they need to do."
Trump's statement raises many questions about his vision of the upcoming war and Ukraine's position in the international arena. Does this mean the possibility of coercion of Kiev to compromise? The answers to these questions are likely to appear after the first meeting in Saudi Arabia.
