Former US President Donald Trump, who is probably preparing for a second term, is considering appointing Richard Grenell as a special envoy to Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters with reference to four sources familiar with the politician's plans.
Grenell "will play a key role in Trump's efforts to end the war if he is ultimately elected."
It is not yet known whether Grenell himself agrees to this. Consultations in this regard are ongoing.
Grenell advocates Ukraine's refusal to join NATO, "and this position he shares with many of Trump's allies." He also proposed to create "autonomous zones" in Ukraine as a result of the settlement.
"Grenell's supporters point out that he has a long diplomatic career and deep knowledge of European affairs. In addition to serving as ambassador to Germany, Grenell was also the president's special envoy for peace negotiations in Serbia and Kosovo," Reuters reminds.
