US President-elect Donald Trump plans to initiate negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to end the war, Republican congressman Don Bacon said. According to him, the war of attrition waged by Russia does not benefit Ukraine, so the United States should speed up support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, if Russia does not show readiness to end the war, Trump will increase the pressure on the Kremlin.
Don Bacon stressed that if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not stop the aggression, the United States should double the supply of weapons to Ukraine, increase economic sanctions and extend restrictions on trade with Russia.
In addition, Bacon drew attention to the possibility of increasing natural gas production in the US, which could significantly affect Russia's military capabilities, since the price of gas is an important factor for the Kremlin's economy.
The congressman also shared his views on Russia's strategic behavior in the war. In his opinion, the Russian leadership is not concerned about losses among its soldiers and has no intention of stopping hostilities, despite the numerous casualties on the battlefield. This shows the Kremlin's indifference to the fate of its citizens.
Bacon noted that a war of attrition is not beneficial for Ukraine, but Ukrainians are fighting for their independence, culture and language, and therefore the United States should do everything possible to end the war as soon as possible.
According to Bacon, the US should continue to support Ukraine, as well as contribute to the acceleration of the peace process, if Russia does not stop its aggression. The priority is to end this conflict as soon as possible to avoid further human and material losses.
