US President Donald Trump is trying to associate the US and Ukraine agreement on mining, demanding a speedy ceasefire. According to Bloomberg, Washington has made it clear that he was ready to complete this agreement only if President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will agree to a "real way to the truce" and negotiate with Moscow.
Earlier, CBS News reported that Trump insists on the conclusion of a "greater and better agreement" on rare land. In particular, the sources noted that the current version of the agreement is not final and its provisions can be revised.
It is known that Ukraine has large reserves of rare earth metals and other strategically important resources that play an important role in modern technologies, defense and energy industry. The US is interested in cooperation in this area, in particular in the context of reducing the dependence of Chinese suppliers.
However, now the conclusion of the agreement is dependent on political decisions - Trump requires the termination of hostilities and the beginning of the negotiation process with Russia.
What does this mean for Ukraine?
- Political pressure - Washington demonstrates that the strategic partnership of Ukraine and the US may depend on Kyiv's willingness to compromise in the war.
- Economic risks - if Ukraine abandons Trump, it may lose potential investment in mining, which could be an important source of budget filling.
- Armistice under Russia? - It is not yet known what requirements include the "real path to the truce". However, any arrangements with Moscow can have serious consequences for Ukrainian security.
Official Kyiv has not commented on the situation, but it is quite obvious that this proposal can cause serious discussions in political and military circles.
