In Transcarpathia, rescuers helped a 26-year-old resident of Kharkiv who got lost in the mountains and suffered frostbite on his limbs. The man was hospitalized to the Rakhiv District Hospital after four days of wandering in the cold and difficult-to-reach terrain.
The State Emergency Service of Transcarpathia reported that the Kharkiv resident independently contacted rescuers, reporting his critical condition. He noted that he could no longer move due to hypothermia and frostbite of his hands and feet. The man also provided his coordinates, which allowed him to determine his location near the Bilyi Nyzhniy waterfall in the Rakhiv district.
According to rescuers, the victim was in dense thickets on a difficult terrain, which made access to him much more difficult. Mountain rescuers from Vydrychka and Yasin, as well as an emergency medical team, went to the scene.
Rescuers provided first aid to the man, changed him into dry, warm clothes, and gave him hot tea to drink. He was then transported on a stretcher to the village of Dilove, where he was handed over to medics. The victim was taken to the Rakhiv district hospital for further treatment and examination.
The State Emergency Service reminds that the autumn-winter period in the mountains is especially dangerous due to sudden changes in weather, low temperatures, and difficult routes. Rescuers urge tourists not to go to the mountains without proper preparation, equipment, and prior notification of loved ones or the rescue service about their route.
