US President Donald Trump, as Politico reports citing sources, was extremely irritated by the reception of Volodymyr Zelensky in Europe after their public conflict at the White House. His indignation was caused by both Zelensky's meeting with the King of Great Britain and the demonstrative support from European leaders, particularly in London.
“Trump was irritated by the events of that Sunday afternoon — not just Zelensky’s visit to the British monarch, but the overall picture: Europe embracing him. One British official noted that Trump’s team “didn’t like the way it looked … the way it all happened ,” Politico writes.
Sources in the British government also suggest that Trump's reaction could prompt London to put more pressure on Kyiv to agree to negotiations to end the war.
However, instead of yielding, Zelensky made another statement: on Sunday evening, during an interview, he said that a peaceful resolution to the conflict was “very, very far away.” According to American officials, it was this statement that became the “trigger” that forced Trump to stop military aid to Ukraine within the next day.
After that, France and the United Kingdom tried to ease tensions in relations, however, according to Politico, a tense atmosphere still exists between the presidents of the United States and Ukraine.
