US President Donald Trump announced that he is canceling a previously scheduled meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. He made the announcement during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. At the same time, Trump did not rule out that a meeting with Putin could take place in the future.
The American leader admitted that his previous conversations with Putin went “well,” but “didn’t lead to anything.” At the same time, he noted that he hopes for “reasonableness” on both sides — both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky:
“ I hope Putin will become reasonable, and I hope Zelensky will also be reasonable. It takes two to tango. They hate each other ,” Trump said.
The politician also added that he always believed that Putin wanted to take all of Ukraine, not just part of it, but now, according to him, the Russian leader is ready for negotiations.
" We don't want him to take everything ," Trump emphasized.
Commenting on the issue of military aid, Trump noted that the United States does not sell weapons directly to Ukraine:
"We sell weapons to NATO countries, and they decide what to do with them."
Regarding the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, the president noted that training in how to use them lasts at least six months:
" The only way is for us to launch them, but we will not do that ."
In addition, Trump commented on the publication of The Wall Street Journal , which spoke about the alleged US permission to strike deep into Russian territory with Western weapons:
" Ukraine does not use our missiles, they use European missiles. I only control ours, and they do not strike with ours ."
