US President Donald Trump has made several new statements about Russia's war against Ukraine, expressing his readiness to apply sanctions and tariffs not only to Moscow, but also to Kyiv.
"Zelensky is not entirely innocent either. It takes two to tango," Trump said during a conversation with reporters, adding that despite this, he maintains a good personal relationship with the Ukrainian president.
The American leader stressed that his main goal is to end the war as soon as possible. According to him, thousands of people, mostly young, are dying on the front every week, and he is ready to use economic tools to stop the bloodshed:
"If I can prevent this by imposing sanctions or using very large tariffs that will cost Russia or Ukraine or whoever dearly."
Trump also said he would insist on a direct meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin to find a possible way to end the conflict.
At the same time, he emphasized that the United States is not going to get involved in a world war, but will continue to strengthen the defense capabilities of NATO allies who are helping Ukraine with weapons and resources.
