The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released the longlist of contenders for the Oscars 2025, which includes three Ukrainian films among 169 films. This is a great achievement for Ukrainian cinematography, which reflects the worldwide interest in the topics raised in these films.
- "La Palisade" (director Philip Sotnychenko) is a film that made it to the list in the "International Feature Film" category. The tape tells the story of two old friends, a detective and a forensic psychiatrist, who investigate the murder of their colleague in the context of the moratorium on the death penalty in Ukraine in 1996.
- "Porcelain War" (directors Brendan Bellomo and Slava Leontiev) is a documentary film that highlights the lives of three Ukrainian porcelain animal artists working against the background of war, showing the powerful connection between art and the realities of modern life in Ukraine.
- "Peaceful People" (directed by Oksana Karpovich) is a documentary film based on radio intercepts of conversations between the Russian occupiers and their families, which demonstrates the everyday attitude towards cruelty and violence that is part of war.
These films have already gained international attention and now have a chance to be nominated for the most prestigious film award in the world. The Oscar 2025 award ceremony will take place on March 3, 2025 in Los Angeles.
