In 2024, the tourist tax, which is planned to visit tourists in hotels, sanatoriums and other places of temporary residence, is showing growth, although it does not reach the level of the pre-coronavirus period. In the first three quarters of 2024, the budgets of local communities received almost 173 million hryvnias from the tourist tax. This is 21% more than in the same period last year, when these revenues amounted to just over 143 million hryvnias.
As the head of the State Agency for Tourism Development (DART) Maryana Oleskiv noted in her Facebook post, in general, the increase in tourist fees was noted in almost all regions of the country, even taking into account the catastrophic decline in the four regions that are suffering the most from the Russian war - Kherson, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Luhansk.
In particular, in the northern regions of Ukraine, the tourist fee for the first nine months of 2024 increased by 56% compared to the same period last year, in the southern regions - by 41%, in the western regions - by 17%, and in the central regions - by 10%.
“So as we can see, despite the war and the difficult challenges it has faced, the tourism industry of Ukraine demonstrates resilience, provides jobs for Ukrainians, and fills the budgets of communities,” Oleskiv noted.

The leaders in paying the tourist tax are the city of Kyiv and five regions. At the same time, the largest amount of the tourist tax went to the capital's budget - 34.4 million hryvnias compared to 21.2 million hryvnias last year. However, if compared to 2021, the tourist tax to the Kyiv budget was halved - then it amounted to almost 68 million hryvnias.
At the same time, in some regions, there was even an increase in budget revenues from the tourist tax compared to the pre-war year of 2021. Thus, the budget of the Lviv region for January-September 2024 was replenished by almost 33 million hryvnias, which is 42% more than in 2021 (almost 24 million hryvnias), and in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, the amount of the tourist tax increased by 120% - to 22.7 million hryvnias compared to 2021 (10.3 million hryvnias). According to the results of the three quarters of last year, the region's tourist tax amounted to 14.7 million hryvnias.
At the same time, the amount of tourist tax in the Transcarpathian region this year amounted to almost 16 million hryvnias, which is slightly more than last year (14.9 million hryvnias), but a third more than in 2021 (11.7 million hryvnias).
