Despite the war and difficult challenges, the tourism industry of Ukraine shows resilience

In 2024, the tourist tax, which plans to visit tourists in hotels, sanatoriums and other places of temporary accommodation, shows growth, although it does not reach the level of the pre-coronavirus period. In the three quarters of 2024, the budgets of local communities received almost 173 million hryvnias from the tourist tax. This is 21% more compared to the same period last year, when these revenues amounted to slightly more than 143 million hryvnias.

As the head of the State Tourism Development Agency (DART) Maryana Oleskiv noted in her post on Facebook, in general, an increase in the tourist tax was noted in almost all regions of the country, even taking into account the catastrophic drop in the four regions that suffer the most from the Russian war - Kherson, Kharkiv , Donetsk and Luhansk.

In particular, in the northern regions of Ukraine, the tourist tax for the first nine months of 2024 increased by 56% compared to the same period last year, in the southern regions - by 41%, in the western regions - by 17%, and in the central regions - by 10%.

"So as we can see, the tourism industry of Ukraine, despite the war and the difficult challenges it faced, demonstrates stability, provides jobs for Ukrainians and fills the budgets of communities," Oleskiv noted.

The city of Kyiv and five oblasts are among the leaders in paying the tourist tax. At the same time, the largest tourist tax went to the budget of the capital - 34.4 million hryvnias against 21.2 million hryvnias last year. However, if compared with 2021, the tourist tax to Kyiv's budget has halved - then it amounted to almost 68 million hryvnias.

At the same time, some regions even saw an increase in budget revenues from the tourist tax compared to the pre-war year 2021. Thus, the budget of the Lviv region for January-September 2024 was replenished by almost 33 million hryvnias, which is 42% more than in 2021 (almost 24 million hryvnias), and in the Ivano-Frankivsk region the amount of tourist tax increased by 120% - to 22, 7 million hryvnias compared to 2021 (10.3 million hryvnias). According to the results of three quarters last year, the region's tourism collection amounted to 14.7 million hryvnias.

At the same time, the amount of tourist tax in Zakarpattia Oblast this year amounted to almost 16 million hryvnias, which is slightly more than last year (14.9 million hryvnias), but a third more than in 2021 (11.7 million hryvnias).

The budget of the Kyiv region due to the tourist tax for 9 months of the current year was replenished by 10.7 million hryvnias, which is a third less than the figure for 2021 (15.3 million hryvnias), but half more than the amount of the tourist tax in 2023 (almost 7 million hryvnias) .
Dnipropetrovsk region closes the list of leaders, whose budget received 10.8 million hryvnias, which is almost the same as the amount of the tourist tax in 2021 (10.7 million hryvnias), but 18% more than the receipts to the region's budget in 2023 (9.2 million hryvnias UAH).
