An indictment has been filed in Odessa against two men who demanded $10,000 from a local resident for an alleged debt he did not have, regional police reported.
The suspects are a 38-year-old resident of Odessa and a 34-year-old resident of the Odessa region, who previously had convictions for theft, robbery, fraud, and other crimes. According to the investigation, they called the 24-year-old victim and threatened him with violence, demanding the return of a debt that did not actually exist.
In September, the victim met with the attackers in a park, where they forced him to go home to get the money. One of the attackers waited near the front door, and the second took $10,000 from the apartment. However, they did not have time to dispose of the money: law enforcement officers detained them in a procedural order and seized physical evidence, which is currently under arrest.
Both were given a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to post bail. The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and investigators have brought charges under Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - extortion of another's property with the threat of violence, committed by a group of persons in a prior conspiracy, repeatedly, during martial law. The sanction of the article provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The indictment has already been sent to the court for consideration.
