In Zaporizhia, a court found two patrol officers guilty of assaulting a local resident while on duty in 2020. This was reported by the press service of the Zaporizhia Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the investigation, the police stopped the man on the street without any reason. They forced him to completely undress, while accompanying the “check” with humiliation, threats and beatings. The incident occurred in broad daylight, in front of passers-by, and lasted about 40 minutes.
The prosecutor's office proved that the patrol officers' actions were violent, clearly humiliated human dignity, and exceeded their official authority. Both were found guilty under Part 1 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - abuse of power with the use of violence.
The court sentenced the police officers to 3 years in prison and a ban on working in law enforcement agencies for one year.
The investigation into the case was carried out by investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation from Melitopol.
