Timur Tkachenko accused Klitschko of a political show

The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMMA), Timur Tkachenko, commented on the statement of Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko about an alleged attempt to “unbalance” the power in the capital and “destroy” local self-government. According to Tkachenko, such statements are “very strange” and have no basis.

“Yesterday I had a completely working conversation with him. We discussed what needs to be done, what our priorities are as a military administration. But what did I see in response? Not help in work, but accusations. Empty accusations,” Tkachenko said on Facebook.

Tensions have been growing between the Kyiv City Military Administration, headed by Tkachenko, and Klitschko's city hall recently. Klitschko previously stated that the KMVA is trying to usurp the powers of the capital's authorities, effectively eliminating local self-government. At the same time, Tkachenko insists that his department is only performing its functions and is not planning "political shows.".

“KMVA will do everything for Kyiv residents that the city hall cannot do. But we will not engage in political shows,” he emphasized.

One of the issues discussed at the KMVA was the operation of public transport during air raids. According to current regulations, trolleybuses, buses and minibuses stop as soon as an air raid warning signal is heard. However, this creates significant inconvenience for passengers.

“We are now looking for a comprehensive solution together with the military. Of course, the safety of Kyiv residents comes first,” Tkachenko explained.

Disputes between Klitschko and the military administration have been ongoing since last year. Under martial law, the KMVA received significant powers, which creates a conflict with the city hall.

Klitschko has repeatedly stated that he is being tried to remove him from governing Kyiv, and now he has publicly appealed to President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling for him to intervene in the situation.

For its part, the KMVA team insists that no “destruction of self-government” is taking place, and all steps are aimed solely at effective management of the city during the war.

Whether this conflict will escalate in the near future will be determined by the development of events.
