Under the procedural guidance of the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, two men were informed of the suspicion of attempted theft on a particularly large scale, intentional destruction and damage to someone else's property, carried out by a group of persons based on a prior conspiracy.
According to the investigation, residents of the Zaporizhia and Mykolaiv regions tried to steal money from bank customers in the city of Chernihiv. From the middle of February 2024, they periodically came to the city, collected information about the location of the bank's vault, the presence of video surveillance, fire alarms and other security devices, as well as possible ways to enter the premises.
The suspects dug and reinforced an underground tunnel in advance from the territory of the children's educational institution to the basement of the high-rise building adjacent to the bank. Using hand and impact tools, they prepared an opening in the wall that led directly to the vault.
On the morning of May 6, men climbed onto the roof of the bank building, filled its premises with fuel and lubricants through the ventilation channel and set it on fire. Having punched a prepared hole, they penetrated inside the bank, broke the rented individual bank boxes and began to look for cash and other valuables. More than 5.5 million hryvnias were kept in the boxes at that time.
Not having time to break all the boxes before the arrival of the law enforcement officers, the criminals fled from the scene. The suspects were detained in the Zaporizhia and Mykolaiv regions.
Currently, the issue of selecting preventive measures for detainees is being resolved.
