On Saturday, March 8, there was an extraordinary event in the Pechersk district of Kiev - three cars failed under the asphalt. The incident happened on the museum lane, 8.
According to Ukrinform, the cars were parked along the street, when they suddenly pushed asphalt under them, forming a deep pit.
Utility services work at the scene, which evaluate the extent of destruction and possible causes of the failure of the road surface.
According to preliminary information, there are no victims, but the cars themselves were seriously damaged.
There is no official version of the reasons for failure, but experts put forward several basic hypotheses:
- Soil washing - possible damage or breakthrough of underground communications could cause the basement under the road surface.
- Old engineering networks - in the center of Kiev, many heating tracts, water supply and sewage systems that could crack or cause soil settlement.
- Construction work nearby - frequent reconstruction and underground construction work can affect the integrity of the road surface.
Representatives of Kyivteploenergo, Kyivvodokanal and SESA are already working at the scene. Their task is to assess whether there is a risk of further collapse and identify ways to eliminate the consequences of failure.
Also on the network appeared photos from the scene, which shows how the cars were literally "drowned" in the asphalt pit.
Unfortunately, asphalt failures in the capital occur regularly. One of the most common reasons is the outdated city infrastructure - most of the pipelines in Kiev have more than 50 years of operation. Under load conditions, temperature changes and high groundwater levels, it can lead to destruction.
In any case, residents of Kiev should be careful, especially in the old areas of the city where the risks of such failures are higher.
Currently, utilities continue to work at the scene of the accident, and the owners of damaged cars are waiting for the results of the investigation.
