The Verbytskyi case
Journalists from "Schemes" found out that Deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskyi settled in a house in the capital's elite cottage town "Konik", which his nephew purchased by proxy from an Odessa businessman for over 2 million hryvnias, which, according to market prices, is a 6-fold undervalued value.
"Schemes" also claim that since May 2024, Khrystyna Ilnytska, with whom Verbytsky is allegedly in a relationship, has become the owner of one of the neighboring estates on the banks of the Konyk River. The approximate market value of such real estate is 48 million hryvnias, although the purchase and sale agreement for the house indicates that the woman paid about 2 million hryvnias for it.
The official himself denied that he helped Ilnytska with the acquisition of property.
In addition, journalists discovered that a few months earlier, the woman had purchased a 2023 Porsche Macan T worth $100,000. At the same time, Ilnytska's own total income, reported to the state over the past decade, is just over 360,000 hryvnias.
Verbytsky is the Deputy Prosecutor General, who is, in particular, responsible for issues related to combating economic crimes, tax evasion, and investment protection.
Following the journalists' investigation, an internal investigation was launched into Verbytskyi, the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption is conducting an audit of Verbytskyi's lifestyle, and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau has opened criminal proceedings regarding his possible illegal enrichment.
Parliamentarians summoned Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin to the Verkhovna Rada to report on the property of his deputy. However, Kostin did not appear, explaining that an official investigation was currently underway, and therefore proposed postponing the discussion.
Verbytsky subsequently submitted his resignation to avoid negative impact on the work of the Prosecutor General's Office. Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin signed an order dismissing him on July 1.
