Who is Sergei Paradzhanov
Sergey Paradzhanov is one of the brightest artists of the XX century. Born in Tbilisi in 1924 of Armenian origin, he closely linked his life with Ukraine. In Kiev, his career began, a movie "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" was created here, which became a stage for Ukrainian cinema.
The premiere of the tape took place in 1965 at the Ukraine cinema, and later the film received 39 international awards in 21 countries. Paradzhanov's work was highly appreciated by Federico Fellini, Akira Kurosava, Michelangelo Antonioni, Andrzej Weida.
Freedom as the main force of the artist
Contemporaries remember Paradzhanov as a person of extraordinary inner freedom. He was his own for Hutsuls, intellectuals, and even ZEKs - and a stranger for those who were frightened by his frankness. Even in the camps of the strict regime, where it was eaten for "anti -Soviet activity", Paradzhanov created about 800 art works.
His experimental aesthetics, love for details and the ability to turn unnecessary into art have forever changed the idea of cinema as a form of visual expression.
The museum in Kiev will be another testimony that Paradzhanov's legacy is alive, relevant and deeply rooted in Ukrainian culture.
