A trial has begun in Kyiv against a nanny accused of punching a 4-year-old girl in the face on a bus. The recent incident was captured on video and sparked public outrage.
An indictment was filed against the nanny for intentionally inflicting blows on the child's face that did not cause bodily harm (Part 1, Article 126 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)
In April 2024, a video of a woman slapping a girl on a bus was posted on social media. The mother of a 4-year-old child immediately saw the video and recognized her daughter and the nanny. The woman contacted the police and immediately stopped working with the nanny, the prosecutor's office said.
"The nanny explained to law enforcement officers that she was slapping the child to prevent her from falling asleep. She allegedly agreed to this with a 4-year-old girl with whom she was going to church that day," the report states.
For the offense, the accused faces a fine of up to 50 tax-free minimum incomes or community service for a term of up to two hundred hours, or correctional labor for a term of up to one year.
