In Kyiv, two men were charged with forging letters from military units and receiving charitable assistance in the amount of 1.7 million hryvnias.
The information was provided by the General Prosecutor's Office. According to the investigation, the suspects, having nothing to do with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, sent letters to charitable foundations and volunteer organizations on behalf of military units with a request for humanitarian aid.
Representatives of charitable funds contacted the fraudsters on the indicated phone numbers and agreed on the provision of the necessary assistance. Under the guise of representatives of military units and military uniforms with seals, they received tactical tools, medical equipment and first-aid kits, which were later sold.
The fraud was discovered when the funds contacted one of the military units to confirm the fact of receiving aid. However, the military reported that no letters were sent and no assistance was received.
The involvement of the suspects in seven episodes of fraud in the amount of about 1.7 million hryvnias has now been established. Both detainees were informed of suspicion of fraud and remand in custody.
