The Kyiv City Council has banned the sale of cigarettes, including electronic cigarettes, as well as any other excisable goods in all MAFs and kiosks in the capital.
This decision was made on Thursday, June 13, at a meeting of the Kyiv City Council. The deputies made this decision synchronously and unexpectedly, voting for an amendment submitted “by voice” by one of their colleagues.
The amendment was introduced by City Council member Oleksandr Mishchenko during the consideration of the new Regulation regulating the interaction between the city community and owners/tenants of MAFs, kiosks, pavilions, etc. Mishchenko made the amendment simply "by voice", adding that he supports the project as a whole, except for the point that deals with the sale of excisable goods and tobacco products.
“I believe that cigarettes should not be sold in kiosks,” the deputy added to applause from his colleagues.
The head of the Department of Territorial Control in Kyiv, Mykhailo Budilov, who was the speaker on the issue of the Regulations, just clapped his hands - he said he had no opinion on the matter, "I personally don't smoke - but that's up to the audience.".
As a result, the deputies decided unanimously: 71 votes "for", 1 "abstain", another 20 deputies present in the hall did not vote.
